Pivot point calculator

Pivot points are support and resistance levels worked out from the previous period's high, low and close. Enter those three prices and the calculator gives the pivot with three support and three resistance levels in the standard and Fibonacci versions, and four of each in the Camarilla version. It runs in your browser.

Use the last day's, week's or month's values. The close must sit between the high and the low.

Nothing you type leaves your browser. This is arithmetic, not advice.

The formulas

Standard, with H as the high, L as the low, C as the close and R as H - L:

P = (H + L + C) / 3 R1 = 2P - L S1 = 2P - H R2 = P + R S2 = P - R R3 = H + 2(P - L) S3 = L - 2(H - P)

Fibonacci uses the same P and steps away from it by Fibonacci ratios of the range: R1 = P + 0.382R, R2 = P + 0.618R, R3 = P + R, and the supports the same way below P.

Camarilla measures from the close instead: R1 = C + 1.1R / 12, R2 = C + 1.1R / 6, R3 = C + 1.1R / 4, R4 = C + 1.1R / 2, and the supports the same way below C. The constants are a convention, not derived from data.

Worked example. Yesterday's high was 62,000, the low 58,000 and the close 60,000. P is (62,000 + 58,000 + 60,000) / 3 = 60,000. The first resistance is 2 x 60,000 - 58,000 = 62,000 and the first support is 58,000. R2 is 60,000 + 4,000 = 64,000 and S2 is 56,000.

On a chart

The Pivot Points indicator on the TradingTwo chart draws the standard levels from the previous day, week or month, so you do not have to type anything. Use this calculator to check a level, or to try the Fibonacci and Camarilla versions.

Questions

How are pivot points calculated?

The pivot is the average of the previous high, low and close. The support and resistance levels are then set from the pivot and the previous range, using the version you choose.

Which period should I use?

Use the period before the one you trade. For a day trader that is the previous day. For a swing trader it can be the previous week or month. Crypto trades all day, so agree on which time zone your day ends in.

Do pivot points predict price?

No. They are a fixed set of levels that many traders watch, which is the only reason they matter.

Are my numbers saved or sent anywhere?

No. The calculation runs in your browser.
